This plan aims to guide where houses are built up to 2040 to meet the district target of 17,175 additional homes and proposes large developments very near to Otford, largely on areas of Green Belt land that are being reclassified as “Grey Belt”. Currently, Otford has around 1,500 homes and the largest of the new developments would add a further 1,500 homes on top of the already approved Sevenoaks Quarry development (around 950 new homes). One of The Otford Society key aims is to protect the village from inappropriate development and hence we are asking village residents for their views so that we understand whether the majority of residents regard these developments as inappropriate. Our commitment is to use our resources to represent the majority of residents’ views in the strongest possible terms.
Whilst we are asking you to complete our short survey, it is also very important that you submit your views directly to Sevenoaks District Council as part of the Public Consultation that is open until 11th December 2025. You can access this by clicking here: https://www.sevenoaks.gov.uk/info/20069128/emerging_local_plan and scrolling down to the bottom of the page. You can also register to attend a District Council “Pop Up Session” to ask questions and express your views by clicking here: https://www.eventbrite.com/o/sevenoaks-district-council-119522554991
The Otford Society will be holding an Extraordinary General Meeting on Wednesday 26th November at 7pm in Otford Village Memorial Hall where we plan to present the summary of our survey back to members and residents and also take further feedback and suggestions.
This is probably the biggest proposed change to affect the village for decades so please do let us have your views below and make sure that you HAVE YOUR SAY. It may be too late to do this if you miss this opportunity.
