1940s Society - Churchill's Favourite Spy
1940s Society - Churchill's Favourite Spy
19:00 to 21:30
The September '1940s Society' meeting will be on Friday 27th SEPTEMBER 2024 in Otford Village Memorial Hall when author and historian Clare Mulley will give a talk entitled 'Churchill's Favourite Spy'. Countess Krystyna Skarbek - aka Christine Granville - was Britain’s longest-serving female special agent of the Second World War. Christine fled to Britain on the outbreak of war and persuaded MI6 to make her their first female recruit. She took on mission after mission, skiing into occupied Poland, serving in Egypt and later parachuting into occupied France. In a cruel twist, she survived the war but then met an untimely death in a hotel in South Kensington. How? Clare Mulley, the author of ‘The spy who loved’ will tell Christine’s story
The meeting will be in Otford Village Memorial Hall (OVMH). Doors open at 7pm and the talk will be at 7.30pm. Admission £5, (cash only please). Refreshments will be available.
