Coronation BBQ on the Green, May 8th

Another big event at the Green this year! Otford Parish Council and the Otford Society are joining forces again to lay on a celebration of the Coronation of His Majesty King Charles III.  The village barbecue will be on The Green from 12 noon to 4pm and everyone is welcome.

Enjoy juicy burgers and succulent sausages straight from our sizzling barbecue. There will also be a beer tent, a wine stall and stands selling soft drinks, cakes and ice cream.  Miss Vintage and Flashback will be providing live entertainment and there will once again be craft activities for children.

There are no restrictions on the number of people who can attend this free event. However in order to plan the catering and ensure that nobody is disappointed on the day we are selling advance meal vouchers to guarantee lunch. These are available from the following: Ibbett Mosely and Otford Dry Cleaners in the Parade; Pond View Cafe, Mille Fleurs, Fine & Country, the Bull and the Parish Office, all in the High Street; and Yvonne’s shop in Telston Lane.  The vouchers cost £1 and  entitle the bearer to £2 off the cost of any BBQ meal. Note that these vouchers cannot be used on other food or drinks stands.

Bring rugs and chairs and settle down to enjoy what will be another memorable day for the whole community.

Spring 2023 Update

Flower Power

As Spring begins the daffodils planted last year are starting to bloom.  The borders alongside platform 2, the planter on platform 1 and the window boxes are all alive with colour.

This is all a big tribute to James and his wonderful team of gardeners who came out in the rain to plant all the bulbs back in Autumn.

North Downs Way Sign

The people in charge of the North Downs Way, one of the country’s national trails, have erected a large directional sign just outside the station.  Hopefully, this will be of real benefit to visitors from London and elsewhere.

It shows the whole 153 mile trail which passes in front of the station.  Suggested walks along the path to nearby stations at Cuxton and Oxted are also mentioned.

More Steam at Otford!

On Saturday 3rd March, West Country Class, 34046 “Braunton” heads the Golden Arrow rail tour from Birmingham to Canterbury through Otford.

The train returned to Birmingham the same evening and is seen here racing through Otford as darkness fell.

On Saturday 1st April, another rail tour to Canterbury, this time from Bristol, passed through Otford, headed by B1, 61306 “Mayflower.”   The event was well publicized on social media and drew a crowd of more than 70 to the station.

The train returned to Bristol via Sevenoaks and Orpington and is seen here on the climb from Dunton Green.
