Celebrating 25 years of the Otford Solar System!

This year marks the 25th anniversary of the Otford Solar System, and we’re giving it a space-age makeover! Thanks to a generous donation from Otford Parish Council, we’re installing a new colourful interpretation board and updating each planet marker with new signage featuring QR codes linking to fun and informative videos - perfect for visitors of all ages. We’re also adding what3words locations to help you navigate the solar system with ease (no more ending up at Pluto when you were heading to Mars!). Join us for the re-launch celebration on Saturday 26th July at 12 noon, at the far end of the recreation ground near the Sun marker.  At this event Janice McLean President of the British Astronomical Association will be unveiling the new interpretation board, and you can enjoy a glass of prosecco (free for Otford Society members!) and treat yourself to an ice cream while we toast this cosmic occasion. Can’t make the launch? No problem! You’ll be able to visit the Otford Solar System at your own leisure. There’s a whole universe waiting for you - right here in Otford.

Otford Adventures is pleased to announce that their community-based project, located at Oxenhill Shaw & Meadow, will go live on Friday 28 May. The idea behind the scheme, led by a group of Otford residents, is to encourage families to enjoy the natural beauty of the village by promoting local trails, events and challenges.  To start the journey we have created a beautifully illustrated map that can be downloaded.  In addition, a specially printed A3 version is available from the following venues: Yvonne’s (Telston Lane - open daily) - High Street - Pond View Cafe/Denise Thompson Designer Florist (Monday - Saturday) and Hall & Co. (Tuesday - Saturday) and Ibbett Mosely, The Parade (Monday - Saturday). We are asking people to make a voluntary contribution of £2 to the Otford Society to help fund future Otford Adventures. More about Otford Adventures Diary Date - Saturday June 26 at 10.00am - “The little rabbit who was afraid of everything”. A free walking event lasting approximately one hour and  suitable for children aged 3 - 7 years. If you'd like your child to join the walk, please email otfordadventures@otfordsociety.org.uk as soon as possible to secure a place as numbers will be strictly limited.
